“Adopt the pace of Nature; Her secret is patience.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
My weekend at Watson Lake Campground was pleasant. Friday and Saturday nights were busy and the campground filled up, but even though I was close to other people, I couldn’t see them due to the shrubs in between the sites. It was nice.
On Saturday there was a Walk-a-thon for the local humane society. Cosmo and I wandered over to the park, and although we didn’t walk the mile, we did enjoy the company of many other dogs and their people. We got our picture taken at the official Walk-a-thon booth.
Afterwards we walked down to the lake. It was gorgeous.
The park got very busy on Saturday night, but everyone quieted down by 10:00 and I slept well. Everyone pulled up stakes and left on Sunday morning and we had the place to ourselves for a couple of days.
Tuesday, we stopped at Walmart in Prescott Valley and stocked up and then we headed back south to Cordes Lakes/Bloody Basin Road. We drove 3 miles down the road and got our favorite spot. The dark skies and dead quiet was remarkable after a noisy weekend with people.
The week was mostly uneventful. I’ve managed to keep up with my exercise by working out early before the heat sets in. It is still hot but predicted to cool off a degree or two each day throughout the coming week. I’ve learned not to put too much stock in weather forecasts as they seem to change drastically not just day to day but sometimes hour to hour.
Lessons From The Road: It was an easy week. I didn’t have to learn (or RE-learn) any tough lessons this week. Maybe that IS the lesson: To just go with the flow. My plans seem to change daily depending on the weather/heat. I had plans to be farther south by this time, but farther south it is still 108⁰. I had to move back north due to excess heat, and was feeling a little “behind schedule.” I guess the lesson is that there ISN’T a schedule that can’t be adjusted due to outside circumstances. Early on in my travels, this unexpected change of plans would have been difficult for me to deal with; Now it doesn’t even register as a minor annoyance. I think that’s progress.
