Cosmo and I were in the Bisti Badlands in the spring of 2022. It was like being on another planet!
I retired and sold my building in June of 2021. I moved into my new (to me) 1998 Roadtrek 190 Versatile van.
Cosmo and I started our roadtrip just outside of DC, visiting some friends. Next we headed west to Wisconsin to see more friends during the summer of 2021. After that we headed to the west coast via the northern route stopping in National Parks and BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land in the Dakotas, Idaho and Wyoming before making our way to the Bay Area to see more friends. Then we drove down the California coast to Fresno, LA, and Long Beach . From there we headed to Palm Springs and spent the winter in Southern California and Arizona.
The first 3 months were quite a learning curve. The van is only 19.5 feet long, but it is heavy! It weighs over four tons! I’ve driven the same length van many times, but the added height and weight made driving very difficult for me at times.
The next 3 months were spent visiting friends, so even though I didn’t set any hard deadlines, I pretty much knew where I was heading next. Now that I’ve visited all the friends I will visit for a while, I’m truly a nomad. Cosmo and I wandered around the northwest last summer, and spent the winter in southern Arizona and California, trying to stay where the temperature is not too cold and not too hot. We spent much of this summer in the forests near Flagstaff, AZ.
We are having the time of our lives!
