I Live Here ALREADY!

It occurred to me this week that I talk to a lot of people about what I’m going to do once I sell my property, or tell them that I’m looking forward to starting my journey once I sell my building, or saying “When I get my van…”

Everything seems to be future tense.  I’ll start my life when…

Somehow when I thought I might be getting on the road in a couple weeks, putting off the adventure seemed practical. Now that I know it will be at least a couple months, a voice came to me that said “What are you waiting for?”  It’s true. I can’t get my van and get on the road yet, but what is this adventure really about?  Is it about trading my home for a home on wheels? Is it about being someplace other than where I am now?  OK, maybe partly. But mostly it started as a way to feel the connection to the earth, to nature, to life that I learned when I was in Peru. I don’t need to wait to feel that.

So last week, I decided that I was taking Cosmo on a walk and pretending that we were on our way to Arizona or Florida, or wherever the wind was supposed to be taking us this week and we just stopped over for a couple days in this quaint little town. We walked around Milford exploring and trying to see through objective eyes. We tried out a new routine, coffee from a place we never stop anymore, walked along the river, and explored some parts of town we never experience.  It really was quite nice.

And so, the goal moving forward is to keep that connection, and maybe move out of our comfort zone. Maybe an evening walk down in Rehoboth or Lewes now that the summer tourism season is coming to a close.  Maybe the next time I drive north to see my mom, instead of rushing home we can go to a local park or even better, find a dog park. There is so much nearby that we’ve not experienced yet. No need to wait until we get the van and get on the road to start our adventure..
